About Passport Masking

Detect and mask passport numbers and Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) data from scanned passport copies and documents containing passport information. Passport numbers are highly sensitive travel document identifiers. This tool scans your document using browser-based OCR, detects passport number patterns and MRZ lines, and replaces them with masked equivalents. Processing is entirely local — your passport scan never leaves your device. Useful for sharing identity documents in onboarding, visa applications, and KYC flows without exposing full passport details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MRZ data?

The Machine Readable Zone is the two-line code at the bottom of a passport photo page containing encoded name, nationality, document number, and date of birth.

Does it mask the photo too?

No. The tool targets passport number text and MRZ lines. Photo redaction requires the face-blur tool.

Are my passport scans uploaded?

Absolutely not. This is a privacy-first tool — all processing runs locally in your browser.
