About Aadhaar Masking

Automatically detect and mask Aadhaar numbers (12-digit UIDs) in PDF documents and scanned images. Aadhaar numbers are sensitive personally identifiable information under Indian law. Sharing unmasked Aadhaar documents — even in KYC processes — can expose individuals to identity theft. This tool scans your document using OCR (Tesseract WASM) running entirely in your browser, detects 12-digit Aadhaar patterns, and replaces them with XXXX XXXX 0000 (masked form). The original document is never uploaded to any server. Compliant with UIDAI guidelines for Masked Aadhaar sharing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Masked Aadhaar?

Masked Aadhaar is an official UIDAI-recommended format where the first 8 digits are replaced with XXXX XXXX, leaving only the last 4 digits visible for verification.

Is this tool compliant with UIDAI guidelines?

Yes. The masked output follows the UIDAI-recommended format for sharing Aadhaar in KYC and document submission contexts.

Are my documents uploaded?

No. OCR and masking run locally in your browser using Tesseract WASM. Your documents never leave your device.

Does it work on scanned documents?

Yes. The tool uses OCR to read text from scanned images before applying the mask.

Is it legal to share masked Aadhaar?

Yes. UIDAI recommends using masked Aadhaar (with first 8 digits hidden, showing only XXXX-XXXX-1234) for most verification purposes. For legal requirements where full Aadhaar is needed, provide the full number.

How does OCR detect the Aadhaar number?

FileCraft uses Tesseract.js (WebAssembly OCR) to recognize the 12-digit Aadhaar pattern in your document. The OCR runs entirely in your browser.

Does FileCraft store or transmit my Aadhaar data?

No. The OCR and masking process runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your Aadhaar document never leaves your device. Nothing is logged or stored.

What if the OCR doesn't detect my Aadhaar number?

If auto-detection fails, you can manually select the area to redact using the manual selection tool. This works for any layout or print quality.

Can I mask Aadhaar numbers in a multi-page document?

Yes. FileCraft processes all pages of a PDF and masks detected Aadhaar numbers across every page.

Privacy & Security

Aadhaar is one of India's most sensitive identity documents. FileCraft processes it using local WebAssembly OCR — your Aadhaar data never leaves your device, is never stored, and is never transmitted to any server.

FileCraft uses Tesseract.js (WebAssembly) for optical character recognition to detect the 12-digit Aadhaar number pattern, then uses pdf-lib or Canvas API to redact it permanently.
