About Unlock PDF
Remove the password from a password-protected PDF file — directly in your browser with no upload required. If you have the password for a PDF but need to share it with colleagues or store it without a password, this tool renders each page at high resolution and rebuilds the PDF as an unlocked, shareable document. Enter the PDF password, and the tool uses PDF.js to decode the document and pdf-lib to create a clean copy. Note: the output is a flattened image-based PDF. Text selection and search are not preserved. Ideal for unlocking PDFs you own and have legitimate access to.

What happens to the text in my PDF?
The output is rebuilt from page images, so text search and copy are not available in the unlocked copy. If text preservation is critical, use a desktop PDF tool.
Is this legal?
Unlocking a PDF you own and have the password for is legal. Bypassing security on a PDF you do not have rights to is not.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decryption and rendering uses PDF.js and pdf-lib in your browser. Your document never leaves your device.
What if I enter the wrong password?
An error will be shown. Double-check your password and try again.
Do I need to know the PDF password to unlock it?
Yes. FileCraft requires the correct password to decrypt the PDF. It cannot crack or bypass encryption.
What encryption does FileCraft's Unlock PDF support?
FileCraft supports standard PDF user password encryption (40-bit RC4, 128-bit RC4, and 128-bit AES). 256-bit AES requires the Pro version.
What if I locked the PDF with owner permissions only (no open password)?
Some PDFs have only permission restrictions (no copy, no print) but no open password. These can sometimes be opened without a password in PDF viewers that ignore permission flags.
