About HEIC to JPG

Convert HEIC and HEIF photos taken on iPhone and iPad to universally compatible JPEG files — right in your browser. HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. While it delivers excellent quality at small file sizes, HEIC files are not supported by Windows, Android, or most web platforms without special software. This tool uses a browser-native decoder to convert HEIC files to JPEG locally on your device. No photos are uploaded to any server. Supports single and batch conversion. Output JPEG quality is set to 92% for an optimal balance of file size and visual fidelity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?

HEIC uses the High Efficiency Image Format which Windows does not natively support. Converting to JPEG ensures universal compatibility.

Will I lose photo quality?

The output JPEG uses 92% quality which is visually identical to the HEIC original in most cases.

Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?

Yes. Select multiple files in the file picker to batch convert them all to JPEG.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. Decoding uses a browser-based HEIC library and runs entirely on your device.

What is HEIC format?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It uses HEVC video compression to store photos at about half the size of JPEG with the same visual quality.

Why can't Windows open HEIC files by default?

HEIC uses the HEVC codec, which Microsoft charges for on Windows via the HEVC Video Extensions codec ($0.99 in Microsoft Store). FileCraft converts HEIC to JPG without needing any codec installation.

Does HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

Some quality change is unavoidable when converting between lossy formats. At 90% JPEG quality, the visual difference from the original HEIC is typically imperceptible.

Can I convert multiple HEIC photos at once?

Yes. Drop multiple HEIC files onto the tool to batch convert them. All converted JPGs are downloaded as a ZIP archive.

How can I make my iPhone save photos as JPG instead of HEIC?

Go to Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible. This saves all new photos as JPEG. Existing HEIC photos need to be converted.

Privacy & Security

HEIC to JPG conversion runs entirely in your browser using heic2any (WebAssembly). Your iPhone photos — which may include personal moments — never leave your device.

FileCraft uses heic2any (a browser-native HEIC decoder) to decode HEIC/HEIF images and re-encode them as JPEG using the Canvas API.
